Collection: Travel Acoustic Guitars

A real acoustic guitar that fits in the overhead locker.

Most travel acoustic guitars ask you to compromise: a shorter scale, a toy-like body, or a hard case you have to check in. Journey's travel acoustic guitars don't. Each Overhead model has a full 24.5" scale, a 1 3/4" nut and solid tonewoods. Then the neck detaches in about 20 seconds, so the whole guitar packs into a backpack that fits standard Qantas and Virgin Australia carry-on limits (56 x 36 x 23 cm).

Choose your tonewood

• Solid mahogany (OF312C): warm, woody and forgiving, our best-selling all-rounder
• Solid Sitka spruce and Pau Ferro (OF422C): bright, clear and loud, great for strummers and singers
• Solid Acacia Koa (OF882C): rich shimmer and sustain in a premium gloss finish
• Puddle Jumper (PJ410N): the most affordable way into a solid-top collapsible travel acoustic
• Parlour, cutaway and classical models: for fingerstylists and nylon-string players

Built for travel, made to be played

• Patented detachable neck system, guaranteed for life
• Tri-piezo pickup built in, so you can plug in at any gig
• Neck scoop-away and bevelled arm rest on the Overhead+ models

Travel acoustic guitar FAQs

Can I take it on the plane as carry-on?

Yes. Packed down, the guitar and backpack measure 22 x 14 x 9 inches (56 x 36 x 23 cm), which matches the Qantas and Virgin Australia carry-on size limits. Weight allowances vary by airline and fare, so check yours before you fly. Jetstar is changing its carry-on rules for flights from 2 February 2027; on the base fare you'll need to add Priority Carry-on for an overhead-locker bag.

Does it sound like a full-size acoustic?

It's the closest you'll get in a carry-on. The full 24.5" scale means normal string tension and a normal feel under your fingers, which short-scale travel guitars can't match.

Does it stay in tune after taking it apart?

The neck locks into the same position every time, and the strings stay on the guitar when it's packed down. Most players need only a quick touch-up after assembling.

Wood or carbon fibre?

Wood gives you the warmth and character of a traditional acoustic. Carbon fibre is near-indestructible and unaffected by heat or humidity. See our carbon fibre travel guitars if you're heading somewhere tropical or rugged.

Do you ship Australia-wide?

Yes, with free shipping Australia-wide. We're the official Journey Instruments distributor for Australia and New Zealand.
